The new Libraries' home page is scheduled to go live on Monday, August 17, 2009. Please take a look at the preview and let us know if you notice any bugs. The revisions to the page incorporated both usability feedback and staff input.
If you have tutorials, handouts, or other resources that you need assistance with because of the design changes, please contact a member of the Web Management Committee.
Web Developers should stop making changes to web pages on "set" and "go" between August 10, 2009 and the launch.
Feel free to share your feedback by posting a comment.

In response to Patty's comments and Darcy's response, although we do not currently have a single place to look for journal titles we could add another link under the Journal Articles & Databases tab for: Find Journals by Title in the Library Catalog which takes the user to the journal title index in the catalog.
As Patty noted adding "journal titles" under the description Search the library catalog for books and other items available from UNLV Libraries, would be useful.
The Computer Guest User Policy is under revision by Wendy. Once she has it ready, it will go back online.
There isn't a place for the Computer guest user policy. It has gone 404 even on the old website, but I can't find it all on the new homepage.
In response to Patty's comment: This was something that was discussed at length and we could not find the perfect solution either. However, based on usability testing it was clear that the journals tab was a big obstacle for students (grad and undergrad), who frequently attempted to use it to search for journals by topic. The journal tab that was taken away went to the serials solutions list search (which is now listed as a link on the "Journal Articles & Databases" tab). The books tab actually remains the same as it currently is on the site. Part of the problem that we encountered in finding a solution is that there currently is no single place to search for journals by title. The serials solutions list lacks many print titles and the Journal Titles list (in the opac) lacks aggregator coverage. So to make certain we don't have something, you have to search in both places, which is very difficult to explain in the online environment. Future usability will help to uncover better terminology and placement of these links and search boxes.
I love lots about this reworked site -- obviously informed by some useability results. What I wonder about is the loss of the find "journal title." I know journal searching is confusing for students who want articles - but faculty mostly do known title searches. And the LibQual results show one major area of faculty dissatisfaction -- with journals. Unfortunately I don't have a suggestion. But even if ONLY the description line under "books" was changed -- it says
"Search the library catalog for books and other items available from UNLV Libraries." and it could mention journal titles specifically
"Search the library catalog for books, journal titles, and other items available from UNLV Libraries."
It's still buried under books but its where they'd have to go so at least if they went there they'd have confirmation that they are in the right place. It still doesn't guide them there..
