CSA Database Maintenance Saturday and Sunday

On Saturday and Sunday, May 10th and 11th, 2008 some CSA Illumina databases may be affected by maintenance procedures. During this time, you may experience intermittent slow service while using the resources listed below. The My Research and the Administrative Tools will be unavailable for part of this maintenance window. Libraries Launch Newest Digital Collection

The Nevada Test Site Oral History Project documents the remembered past of persons affiliated with and affected by the Nevada Test Site during the era of Cold War nuclear testing. Nearly 200 full-text searchable transcripts and audio clips are now available in this digital collection. Through the Libraries' partnership with the UNLV Department of Liberal Arts, the collection presents a wide range of oral history interviews representing diverse points of view including: scientists and engineers; labor and support personnel; military personnel and corporate executives; Native American leaders; peace activists and protesters; Nevada ranchers, and communities downwind of the test site.

What does LINK+ mean? LINK+ is a consortium of more than 40 academic and public libraries in California and Nevada that uses a shared online catalog and an efficient lending system to transfer requested items between member libraries. UNLV faculty, students, and staff can borrow books that the University Libraries do not own or items we own but that are unavailable. The University Libraries added more than eight million volumes to its print collections last year by joining the What’s in it for UNLV students, faculty and staff? It means you have access to an additional 8 million unique book titles. It means no more waiting weeks for a needed book to be returned or recalled. It means that you can get a book using LINK+ in an average of just two to four days instead of two to four weeks from the more traditional method of interlibrary loan. And it means that you can keep the book for three weeks with a two week renewal and it can’t be recalled. Where do I find order a book using LINK+? Just click the Link+ icon displayed in the library catalog, make your selections, and the book will be on its way to the branch library you choose. Please note: Link+ handles only books; to get journal articles not available in the libraries use Document Delivery Services. Most are delivered to you electronically within two to four days. UNLV Libraries is considering purchasing access to Counseling and Psychotherapy Transcripts, Client Narratives, and Reference Works. This database is a searchable collection containing real transcripts of therapy and counseling sessions and first-person narratives illuminating the experience of mental illness and its treatment, as well as reference works to contextualize the primary material. Please visit our trials page to give it a try, and don't forget to fill out the comment form to let us know if you find Counseling and Psychotherapy Transcripts, Client Narratives, and Reference Works valuable. The theme of the 2008 conference is "Hit the jackpot: successful experimentation and innovation in instruction." Librarians at UNLV have created a new web site in support of the 2008 LOEX of the West conference. LOEX-of-the-West is not officially associated with the LOEX Clearinghouse for Library Instruction at the Eastern Michigan University Library. However, the LOEX-of-the-West conferences have followed the LOEX conference model of a limited number of attendees, promoting an atmosphere for library professionals to learn and share experiences and ideas with others.

Access Online New York Times and Times Select Articles

For the daily reader who wants to scan headlines and see photos, it makes sense to visit NYTimes.com to browse the day's news. A few features like op-ed pieces and articles published between 1981 and two weeks ago are limited to Times Select subscribers. Sign up for free educational Times Select access with your unlv.edu email address! The complete New York Times archives are also searchable through links from the UNLV Libraries web site. The Historical New York Times Archive offers PDF images of newspaper pages from 1851-2003. Magazine and book review pages are included. To search articles after 2003, or to search other major metropolitan newspapers in addition to the Times, use ProQuest National Newspapers from the libraries' web site. Full text articles from the East Coast Late Edition are available from June 1, 1980 to the current day's paper. The New York Times Magazine and the New York Times Book Review are both available from 1997 forward and may be searched in combination with other papers or separately.
