Education: A Sage Collection

Education: A Sage Collection includes the full text of 26 peer-reviewed journals published by Sage and participating societies distinguished by up to 36 years of backfiles, and encompasses over 7,000 articles.

It covers such subject areas as: Adult and Continuing Education, Educational Administration, Educational Policy, Elementary and Primary Education, High School and Secondary Education, Higher Education, International Education, Leadership, Measurement and Testing, Multicultural Education and Diversity, Professional Development, Teaching and Instruction, Teaching Methods.

Search Tips:

  • Searching is not case sensitive, so you don't need to use capital letters. Multiple words entered into the search field (e.g., health nutrition), will be treated as a phrase. To find all words entered in the search field, you must separate words with AND. To find any words entered in the search field, you must separate words with OR.

  • A stop word is a word that is not searchable in a database without special treatment. Search strategies including stop words will retrieve zero results. CSA stop words include: after, and, before, near, not, or, and within. If you need to search these words, enclose them in quotation marks.

  • To export citations to RefWorks, first mark the citations you wish to export by clicking in the box on the left side of the page by each citation you want to export. Then click on the red RefWorks logo located above the citation list. Make sure to have your pop-up blocker disabled and to wait to log into RefWorks until prompted to.

Where is it: Go to the UNLV Libraries' home page. Select the Articles and Databases tab, click on the A-Z List of Databases and then on the letter E and select Education: A Sage Collection.

Professional Development Collection

Professional Development Collection, designed for professional educators, provides a highly specialized collection of nearly 520 high quality education journals, including nearly 350 peer-reviewed titles. This database also contains more than 200 educational reports. In addition to full text, indexing and abstracts are provided for more than 700 journals.

Examples of titles offered in Professional Development Collection include: Booklist, Curriculum Administrator, Education, Education Digest, Educational Leadership, High School Journal, Journal of Education, Journal of Educational Research, Journal of Learning Disabilities, Phi Delta Kappan, Reading Teacher, School Library Journal, and many others. The majority of full text titles included in the database are available in native (searchable) PDF, or scanned-in-color.

Full text information in the Professional Development Collection dates as far back as 1965. Professional Development Collection is one of the Ebscohost family of databases.

Search Tips:

  • To restrict your search retrieval to scholarly/peer reviewed articles use the click box under the green refine search tab in the middle of the search page.

  • To export citations to RefWorks to create a bibliography, first save them to a folder by clicking on the word add on the right side of the page next the citation you want to export. When you have saved the citations you want, click where it says folder has items near the top of the page. Once you are in the folder, first click on select all and then on export. Then select Direct Export to RefWorks and click on save. You will then be directed to the RefWorks login page. It is important to wait until prompted to login to your RefWorks account and to have your popup blocker turned off.

  • It is possible to use wildcards and truncation to expand your search results. Truncation is represented by an asterisk (*). To use truncation, enter the root of a search term and replace the ending with an *. EBSCOhost finds all forms of that word. For example, type comput* to find the words computer or computing. The wildcard is represented by a question mark ?. To use the wildcard, enter your search terms and replace each unknown character with a ?. EBSCOhost finds all citations of that word with the ? replaced by a letter. For example, type ne?t to find all citations containing neat, nest or next. EBSCOhost does not find net because the wildcard replaces a single character.

Where is it: Go to the UNLV Libraries' home page http://www.library.unlv.edu. Select the Articles and Databases tab, click on the A-Z List of Databases and then on the letter P and select Professional Development Collection.
