New journal from UNLV School of Public Health

The Center for Health Disparities Research at UNLV's School of Public Health has published the first issue of its Journal of Health Disparities Research and Practice. It is available online at no cost at http://chdr.unlv.edu/JHDRP.htm

Articles in volume 1, number 1 are:

"A Pilot self-care group intervention for low-income HIV-positive women" by Maithe Enriquez, Margaret S. Miles, Jacki Witt, Paul Gore, and Nancy Lackey.

Ready or Not?

Trust for America's Health has released a report titled "Ready or Not? Protecting the Public's Health from Disease, Disasters, and Bioterrorism." You can read the entire report or go directly to the section for Nevada.

Innovation Magazine

The Winter 2006 issue of UNLV's Innovation Magazine is available on the web now. One of the articles is about the researchers in the School of Public Health. Among the community projects mentioned:

A team headed by Dr. Shawn Gerstenberger is analyzing lead levels in Mexican candy sold locally. He has received over $ 1.5 million in grants for this research.

Dr. Chad Cross received $ 1 million federal grant to create the Nevada Center for Environmental and Health Surveillance.

Dr. Michelle Chino and Dr. Mary Guinan received a $ 1.2 million grant in 2004 that resulted in the establishment of the Center for Health Disparities Research at UNLV.
