Friday's issue of the Las Vegas Sun noted that a Nevada resident, Lara Carver, is one of the first two students to earn a Ph.D. in Nursing at UNLV.

Luzviminda Banaria, a nurse at University Medical Center, was named Distinguished Nurse of the Year by the March of Dimes, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The Asian Journal Online noted that Belen Gabato, one of the founders of the Philippine Nurses Association of Las Vegas, has been appointed by Governor Gibbons to the Nevada Board of Nursing.

Nursing faculty shortage

A story appeared in yesterday LVRJ about the shortage of nursing faculty. UNLV and UNR have received a $ 710,000 grant to fund an accelerated nursing doctoral program. Dr. Candela of the School of Nursing is quoted in the article.

Today at UNLV the School of Nursing presented its 2nd annual Faculty/Student Scholarship Showcase Day. There were 26 posters on display, demonstrating nursing research on a wide variety of topics. I really enjoyed the opportunity to see them all.
