One of the most important databases available at UNLV Libraries for search scientific literature is Web of Science. Simon Pratt from Thomson Reuters has written an interesting piece on how you can use Web of Science to identify important research on past influenza epidemics. Take a look at "Swine influenza - Lessons from history identified by the Web of Science" at http://sciencewatch.com/ana/hot/whatshot/04302009hot/
Since the flu season is upon us, I thought it might be time to list some good resources:
PandemicFlu.gov (http://www.pandemicflu.gov) from the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services covers a variety of aspects of influenza, from therapies to economic impacts. It has a clickable map that will lead you to resources for your state.
Medline Plus has a collection of links on its Flu page (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/flu.html)
To see what's happening in influenza research, check out the influenza subject page at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (http://www.niaid.nih.gov/dmid/influenza/)
Here in Nevada, the Clark County Health District has a "Disease Statistics by Month" (http://www.cchd.org/disease_statistics.htm) report that will tell you how many cases have been diagnosed that month.
