Magazine Use 2007-2008

| | Comments (0)

I have put out a list of current subscriptions in the ASL, with the statistics on how many uses they got in 2007-2008. As you know, if journals are not well used, we cannot justify continuing with the subscription.

The list is in the current periodicals section.

Comments welcome!

Students in the Architecture Studies Library had the opportunity to declare their favorite magazine and share with other students via an in-library flip chart.

Here are the magazines they mentioned, along with how much use the current issues of the title got in 2007-2008. If more than one person mentioned, the number of persons is in parentheses.

Dwell (2) [58 uses]
El Croquis (6) [issues cataloged separately, so no stats on the title as a whole]
Wallpaper [26 uses]
Mark (2) [69 uses]
Japan Architect (2) [14 uses]
A+T (2) [47 uses]
Step inside design [16 uses]
Urban Land [19 uses]
Architecture Minnesota [1 use!!]
A+U [34 uses]
Journal of Architecture and Planning Research [6 uses]
Plan (2) [3 uses, but we just starting getting this one]
Architectural Record [65 uses]
Interior Design [68 uses]
Arca [19 uses]
Contract [15 uses]

One respondent indicated an aversion to reading in general -- luckily these magazines have lots of images!!

Print journals cut

| | Comments (0)

In what will no doubt be the first of several rounds of journal cuts, the Libraries looked at titles that are available both in print and online.

The use of the print version for the titles below is low and/or the cost per use is high, and/or quality of images is deemed adequate in the electronic version. The print version will be canceled.

If these are titles which you consult on a regular basis, or think you *should* consult regularly, you will want to make a note to access them through the Libraries Print and Online Journal Subscriptions page http://qm3ut3ze6e.search.serialssolutions.com/

The Pennsylvania State University Architecture and Landscape Architecture Library has surveyed design journals in order to determine their editorial practices, specifically whether they are peer reviewed, and if they have a blind review process.

The results of their survey are posted at http://www.libraries.psu.edu/architecture/refereed_journals.html
